Bunnies – A True Story

In the first chapter of Selah’s Sweet Dream is a scene with Grandpa’s dog, Skunk. She finds a nest of bunnies and tries to bring them to the house, dropping them along the way. Because this scene seems to have charmed readers, I wanted to share that it was based on a true story.  We had an Australian Shepherd who found a nest and gently carried them home to us. She took us to the nest, and much to the dog’s anguish, we put the babies back and brought the dog in the house until the mother bunny could move her litter. The dog would have been happy to mother them.Sarah and babies June 2014 161

  1. We had bunnies when my daughter was Selah’s age. They were pure-bred. Our dutch rabbit even got to dress up at Easter in an American girl yellow raincoat. Too cute for words. We also had a silver martin-exceptional coat color and an ermine with the curliest coat. At this same time we had a Scottish terrier who as you know is a burrow hunting dog , so she would go bunny hunting in our apartment. We really had to watch her all the time. I still have many pics of Meg and friends, each holding a bunny, and playing dress up with them. They were all litter box trained. Great pets. Love your story.
